60 kilometres south of Cairns in Queensland’s far north, Babinda is famous for it treacherous rocks. The story told by first nations people was about a young lady called Oolana of the Yindinji people. The story goes she fell in love with a man, this was an issue as she was married. The two lovers tried run away together but were chased and caught by the elders of the community. Knowing her love could never flourish Oolana threw herself in to the rocks and drowned. Legend has it that the place is now cursed as many people have succumb the pool an the treacherous rocks over the years. Follow the links for more information.
