Description / Profile
Khara Khoto situated within inner Mongolia is a ruined ancient city with a brutal past. The city gained prominence due to it being a rest stop for traders on the silk road. The Chinese laid siege to the city in 1372 and diverted its only water supply, there are two legends the remain: one is that the military leader of the city lost his mind and murdered his family and the other is that having found a way to escape the city, the leader left a group of soldiers to defend the city. The Chinese army eventually breached the walls and laid waste to any remaining residents and soldiers of Khara Khoto, thus giving rise to the ghost stories that endure to this day. The Black City up until recently has been avoided by locals due to the haunting legends. More information @ ancient-origins.net
