Description / Profile
Edinburgh Castle is in St Ann, Jamaica. Now a ruin this castle is infamous in Jamaican history as the residence of the country’s earliest recorded serial killer. Lewis Hutchinson was the man’s name and he arrived in Jamaica in the 1760s to take control of the castle. He intended to herd cattle and study medicine. Because of the isolated nature of the location travellers would take a rest outside the castle. Unbeknown to them Hutchinson would wait with his rifle ready to shoot them. Once the victim was killed Hutchinson and his accomplices along with some slaves would dismember the bodies and either hang them in trees or throw them down a blowhole. After making a fatal mistake and shooting a British officer Hutchinson was captured and executed along with two of his accomplices. When authorities searched the castle, they found evidence of at least 43 victims. The castle and grounds are said to be haunted by the unfortunate souls that Hutchinson laid to waste.
