Description / Profile
The building situated in Semarang is nicknamed “a thousand doors” because of it’s many doorways and arches and was once headquarters for the Dutch East Indies Rail company. After independence from the Dutch it changed to domestic hands and in recent times has become a cultural centre and museum. Rumour has it that during the occupation by Japan in World War 2 women were raped and murdered here. It is said that the spirits of these women appear in the many rooms and hallways, their faces covered in blood. To add to the eeriness the soldiers that perpetrated these atrocities are rumoured to haunt the building as well.
