Description / Profile
For well over 100 years, Rio’s municipal theatre has stood as a cultural hub for the city, primarily hosting grand operatic performances and beautiful ballet shows. According to legend, at least two spirits still remain within its historic walls. Poet Olavo Bilac, a passionate supporter of the theatre’s construction, is said to wander its halls at night, inspired by the art he helped bring to life. Another apparition witnesses describe seeing is that of a ballet dancer, locals and visitors have spotted her flitting gracefully through the massive building, seemingly lost in her art as she pirouettes without end, forever rehearsing though her mortal life ceased long ago. If you attend a performance, keep watch during intermission. You never know when these gifted ghosts may provide an extra special show from beyond.
