Description / Profile
Located 13kms from the town of Dobele is the Pokaini Forest, a place of mystery, healing and intrigue. The mysteries of Pokaini Forest have endured since ancient times, the source of these mysteries are the strange rock piles littered throughout the forest. Speculation surrounds the origin of these stones, some say it is the remnants of an attempt to build a castle that was never built, others say they were just placed there by farmers a long time ago when they were establishing nearby crops, but the most enduring theory is that it is some kind of ancient pagan magical holy site. Visitors come from all over the world believing that psychic energy is stored within stones, which has magical and sometimes healing powers. The forest is visited by psychics, channelers and mystery hunters alike. There are those that see the forest differently also, they see the area as containing a dark energy and is to be avoided at all costs. Whatever your belief is, the Pokaini Forest is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit if you happen to be in this particular area of Latvia. Beware though, as taking stones from the area is frowned upon and some say can lead to negative outcomes for the souvenir hunter.
