Description / Profile
The Treasurer is well known Polish folklore, this spirit is a protector and is said to warn miners of impending disaster. The Treasurer is also said to aid miners in escaping after disaster has occurred and also guiding those that have died out of the mine and into the afterlife. One of the most famous stories is one about a young boy who desperately wanted to work in the mine in order to feed his poor family. The mine manager considered him to be too much of a slip of boy and didn’t take his request too seriously. The boy insisted and the manager decided to give him a trial. The trial was that the boy had to work in the chamber for one week to see how much, if any salt he could retrieve. The boy took on this challenge with the help of a random miner that offered his services for a percentage of his wage. The boy agreed and worked diligently for one week. After the week was done and the boy was given his first weeks wages he sought the friendly miner that offered to help. It was then that a gentleman appeared before him and praising the boy for his honesty told him to keep his pay. This fellow was the Treasurer.
