My Haunted House

When I first moved to Tasmania I lived in an old house in South Launceston. This house would’ve been about 80-100 years old. It was a pleasant enough house to live in, but sometimes at night you would get a slightly creepy feeling about the place. To the point where you might say it was haunted. Over the course of the three years, we lived there, family members and I had some strange experiences with what might be called paranormal goings-on. On one particular night, my mother was in the house alone when she heard loud heavy footsteps come up the hallway, no one was there. This happened as she talked over the phone to me. Suffice to say she was quite agitated. On another occasion when my uncle and aunty were staying they had a similar experience as they lay in bed. The footsteps came and the light in the room turned on. My uncle got out of bed to check who was doing this, but no one was up. Later that evening they heard what they thought were heavy footsteps on the roof. Personally my experiences were not quite as dramatic. I once heard a little girl giggle in the lounge room (my grandmother heard this as well) and almost every night at about 3am I would hear a tapping on my bedroom window. There seemed to be scratch marks on the window, which was strange because it was too high for anyone to reach and glass is difficult to scratch anyway. One day not long before I moved out I felt this compulsion to go into the underfloor area where the laundry was. I can’t explain why, but as I looked around I noticed something in the not too far distance. I decided to crawl in and retrieve the item. To my amazement, it was a very old picture of a woman. This was very strange because I had been under there before and had never seen this picture. My uncle also had climbed all the way in there at one stage and remarked that he’d never seen the picture. Whether these incidents are paranormal remains to be seen because the only sure thing about the paranormal is we are unsure..
